Neck:  start at POINT O BREASTBONE (upper, central neck base, usually indented) and pull tape snugly aroun base of the neck and back to POINT OF BREASTBONE.  Go all the way around neck and back.  Don't estimate halfway and double it!
Length:  start at POINT OF BREASTBONE, pull tape down chest, between front legs, angle under front leg, along the rib cage and end at base of the tail.
Weight and breed:  accurate weight and breed of dog is helpful.
